Shocking results may indicate a time to discuss much needed ‘parity’ in the league and closing the gap in level between the “Division di Honor” and “Division Uno”.

Some shocking results in week 8 in Division di Honor is promoting a dialog concerning ‘parity’ in the league. Parity is a much needed element in any league, I am sure that everybody wants to see teams competing, even battling, for all three points in every match. That will keep the interest from the public. But it is so important for the ‘branding’ of the league anyway, which should be already on the top priority list of the governing body.

The English Premier League is the most watched league around the world, it is the most valued and also the most interesting. You could have Burnley playing Arsenal, even when Burnley is playing to avoid getting into the relegation zone and Arsenal is playing for holding on to their lead on the table, you can expect a fight for the three points, that is what the public wants.

But they (the Premier League) have been working on this in the last years, so much that clubs like Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth FC and Brentford are now actually fighting to play in Europe and West Ham United is shockingly fighting to stay up in the top league.

What many people are considering, is that the lower league (under the Premier League), the Championship is the most competitive of the two, honestly! that is a fact. That is crucial for the Premier League, it is very good for the Premier League.

The Spanish top league, La Liga, is also now working on improving, they have been following in the footsteps of the English, they are also working on parity, and that is not necessarily in assuring that not only the two big ones, Real Madrid or Barcelona FC, wins the title, no, that is not the point. It is about the fact that every match counts, that every match there is a battle for the three points, recently we have seen that, when both Madrid and Barcelona lost against the so called inferior clubs of the past, no more, the three points are not a given anymore, they are not decided anymore before the first salvo is shot.

If the league is managed as a business, then it is imperative that this issue is investigated as soon as possible, for the sake of the ‘branding’, to capture the public’s attention. Fact finding, trouble shooting and identifying the determining factors that could be improved on, whether it is that clubs need more knowledge on how to manage their organization, the players, what can incentivize better performance in an amateur league, how to build loyalty to the club etc etc.
